Steve R. Carlson

April 14, 1956-Dec. 24, 2013

Steve Richard Carlson died peacefully at home with loving family around him on Tuesday Dec. 24, 2013, in Brookings.

Steve was born April 14, 1956, in Chico, Calif., to Richard and Carol Carlson.

He was raised in Chico, and graduated from Chico High School.

Steve started his working career washing dishes at Mr. Steak and later became manager. He then changed careers, working at Jessup Door stacking blocks, working his way up to supervisor before the plant closed in Chico.

Steve then moved to Medford to work at the White City plant in 1991. In 2005, he retired from there and moved to Brookings.

Steve loved life - going on cruises, camping, being outdoors, fishing with his grandparents, the oceans and rivers around Oregon, animals - especially his dogs - and being the number one fan of the San Francisco Giants and the 49ers.

Steve is survived by Rose Kafader, his best friend of 33 years; brothers Brian (Joy) and Dan (Madeline) of Paradise, Calif.; nephews Darwin and Daniel Carlson, aunts Jane Cramer of Chico and Marilyn Bloedell of Minneapolis, Minn.; brother-in-law Gene (Donetta) Kafader of Kimberly, Idaho; sisters-in-law Bonnie (Bob) Guillory of San Jose, Calif., Joyce Kafader of Daly City, Calif., Joann (Danny) Houck of Red Bluff, Calif., Susan (Dave) Alexander of Corning, Calif. Also surviving are many other nieces, nephews and cousins.

Steve was preceded in death by his mom in 2000, and his dad in 2006.

Steve will be greatly missed by all, especially by Rose and by his dog, Gretta.

The family would like to thank Renee Balcom and Pattie Slagle from Liberty Advocacy Group, Coastal Home Health and Hospice and Dr. Jitendra Patel and staff.

A celebration of life will take place at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, at the VooDoo Lounge, 16362 Lower Harbor Road, Harbor. Everyone is welcome to join a potluck.
