David Meeker

May 29, 1934-Dec. 5, 2013

David Meeker peacefully died at Good Samaritan Society Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013.

He leaves behind many friends and a body of art in the abstract and graphic representations of the Oregon Coast, Colorado Rockies and the coast of California.

David used pigmented inks on paper, acrylics on canvas and corrosives on metals.

David explored Europe and Asia, making new friends and selling his art.

He also moved around the U.S., painting and designing stage sets for theaters. You might see his artwork in California, Colorado, Arizona, New York, Wisconsin, New Jersey, all over Oregon and elsewhere. He was often asked to explain his work and would always say, "No, I want to leave that to you and your imagination."

Born on May 29,1934, in Binghamton, N.Y. and a graduate of the State University of New York, he soon got that itch to move out on the road to concentrate on vistas, to hike a rugged mountain trail or clamber over saltwashed rocks.

Later in life he bought an '88 Harley Softtail and continued his search for beauty and mystery in nature.

James "J.R." Robinson owner of Picture This Gallery in Gold Beach will be taking some of David's art, canvas and metal, and putting it on sale at reasonable prices. The profits will be donated to the Christian Help Snack Pack Program in Gold Beach where David volunteered; he would grin knowing he could still help the children.

David's many friends are gathering at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, for a celebration of his life at David's beloved Cape Cafe in Gold Beach.
