James Richard "Jim" LeClair Sr.

James R. LeClair Sr., 79, passed away Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg, after a short illness.

Jim was born Sept. 13, 1934, in Gold Beach, to Ralph and Erma LeClair.

He lived in Gold Beach for most of his life. He graduated from Gold Beach High School and was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1954. He served his country in the Korean War as a railway trainman. He was honorably discharged in 1956 and attended Barber College in Portland, where he met his future wife Shirley Mae Smith.

The two were married March 2, 1957, in Portland. They had four children: James - "Rick," Robert - "Bob," Debbie and Teresa.

Jim was a logger, owner/operator of a road construction company and a barber. Jim worked hard all of his life.

After retirement, Jim and Shirley moved to Winston to be closer to the VA Hospital.

He loved to hunt and spent a lot of time in the woods. Most recently he had become an avid bird watcher and would sit and watch the birds for hours. He loved yellow finches and hummingbirds.

Jim is survived by his wife Shirley; daughters Debbie Sigvartsen (Don), and Teresa Mendell ( Tracy); grandchildren Sophie Sigvartsen, Sara Sigvartsen, Stephanie Stokes (Justin), Stacia Sigvartsen, Lisa Mendell, Chelsea Yager (Jerry), Kaitlin Mendell, Jake Mendell, Rachel Mendell, Elizabeth Schaedler (Tadd); four great-grandchildren: Trent Schaedler, Addy Stokes, Karree Stokes and James Black.

He was preceded in death by his twin brothers; parents; sister; and sons Rick and Bob.

A service has been held.

Rest in Peace Sweetheart, Dad, Grandpa and Great Poppa. You will be missed. Until we see you again.
