The Curry Coastal Pilot

Henry "Hank" Westbrook III, 83, of Smith River, Calif., passed away on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013.

He was born to Henry and Roberta Westbrook on July 25, 1930.

Hank was part of the fourth generation of Westbrooks to live in Smith River. He attended Smith River grade school, Tamalpais High School, and earned a degree in Animal Husbandry from Oregon State University (OSU)in 1952.

At OSU Hank met Beverly, who would become his beloved wife of 61 years.

Hank served in the U.S. Air Force after college and was honorably discharged as a first lieutenant in 1962.

Hank and his late brother Robert "Chopper" Westbrook had a passion for business. Together they ran Reservation Ranch and Ship Ashore Resort, founded Country Maid Dairy, and participated in several ventures in the timber, Easter lily bulbs, and real estate industries. Hank was also actively involved in the community fishing derbies benefiting Rowdy Creek Fish Hatchery.

Hank had a love of the outdoors and wildlife. He shared this with family and friends through countless bird hunting and fishing excursions. This love manifested itself over 30 years in an annual fishing trip to the Kenai River in Alaska with his family, close friends and associates.

Hank is survived by his wife Beverly; his three children Nancy Westbrook (Joe Mercer), Hal Westbrook (Vicki), and Kerry Parker (Wayne); his five grandchildren Ryan McGovern (Kristina), Bridget Schauer (Jason), Henry Heath Westbrook VI, Teal Westbrook, and Tyler Tate; his two great- grandchildren Madison McGovern, and Eli Schauer.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Rowdy Creek Fish Hatchery, P.O. Box 328, Smith River, CA 95567.
