Susanne M. Freeman passed away at her Harbor home on Sept. 26, 2013, and made her way into the hands of her Lord.
A lifelong resident and businesswoman, she is survived by her beloved sons Ryan Donald Freeman of Beaverton and Alan Anton Freeman Scott recently of Augusta, Maine; also her mother Carol L. Crockett; sisters Donna M. Freeman, Cindy C. Freeman; and nephew Aaron A. Freeman; also by her former husband and friend David E. Scott.
She attended Willamette University, in Salem, graduating in international studies, followed by studies at Diavox Institute of Languages at Lausanne, Switzerland, learning to speak French fluently.
She became a grower of Easter lilies on the family farm from 1976 to 2004, which was unusual at that time. Later, she established Oceanview Storage in 1988, and was assisted by David Scott in both endeavors as well as family members.
Susanne loved to travel with her family and visited many countries, always appreciating every aspect of the cultures, especially the mountains of Switzerland. She enjoyed the performing arts, great literature and the wonderful public gardens in her travels. Her own lovely private garden was always a work in progress. Her Easter lilies were often placed in public display gardens and were planted on the White House grounds.
Susanne was an unforgettable lovely lady, a devoted mother, loyal and loving to her family with many talents, known for her keen intellect, her wry wit, and especially for the tenacious independence packed into her tiny frame. She will be truly missed by all.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct.12, at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, 401 Fir Street, Brookings.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
