David Wayne Dodds, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2013.

He was born June 11, 1930, in Elmhurst, Ill., to John Wayne Dodds and Miriam Enlow.

David grew up in Chicago, and attended school in Riverside Ill., before joining the U.S. Army in 1952.

He served in Korea and Japan before being honorably discharged in 1954.

He married Ellen Wenzel in 1955, and he and his family moved to California in 1960.

He married Linda Farnsworth in 1971, and moved to Smith River, Calif., in 1992, before moving to Harbor, in 2005. David and Linda were married for 41 years.

David was a skilled electrical contractor for more than 50 years. He volunteered his trade skills to various organizations including construction with Habitat for Humanity in Crescent City, and for transportation safety improvements in Smith River. David was a lifetime member of the American Legion, serving locally in Post 712 as adjutant and commander. His service in Post 712 included acquiring and distributing donated critical rescue equipment to the Smith River Fire Department. He was a member of the Smith River Methodist Church and a volunteer firefighter with the Smith River Fire Department for 11 years, as well as a member of the Smith River Fire District Board of Commissioners and the Smith River Cemetery Board.

David is survived by his wife Linda Dodds; and by his children Kenneth Dodds and wife Lynda, Barbara Myres and husband James, Ronald Dodds and wife Alane, and Susan Herbert and husband Neil, children of the late Ellen Wenzel Dodds. He is also survived by Mia Rose and husband Ronald, Eric Farnsworth and wife Susan, and Keith Farnsworth and wife Kathy, children of Linda Stephens Farnsworth Dodds; his sister-in-law Karin Robson and niece Shasta Robson. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He survived his brother Douglas Warren Dodds, who passed away in 2004; and his parents.

A graveside service will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 28, at the Smith River District Cemetery with a Celebration of Life Service at the Smith River United Methodist Church at 12 p.m.; Pastor Steve Pudinski officiating. A fellowship will follow in Social Hall.
