Joyce Berggren, 80, of Brookings, passed away Jan. 15, 2013, at her home.

Joyce was born in Rochester, N.Y., to Francis and Myrtle (Peckins) Terrault.

When she was 4 years old, she and her family traveled across the United States where they homesteaded in Oregon.

She was raised on a farm with her three sisters and a brother.

She was a woman of strength, the last of her siblings to die.

She married Donald Berggren on May 1, 1989, in Yosemite, Calif. Both Joyce and Don worked at RainBird Irrigation in California for 30 years, she as a machine operator, Don as a materials coordinator.

They retired and moved to Brookings 20 years ago, when she returned to the forests of her childhood.

Joyce and Don traveled throughout Oregon and Washington. She gardened throughout her life, painted, worked with ceramics, and could yodel with the best of them. She was a country girl at heart. With her kindness and loving spirit she helped so many others through difficult times, especially her daughter who sustained a spinal-cord injury at age 15. She saw her only son, Steve Soliz, die at age 59 just nine months before she passed away. She had a good life. She was a great mother and maintained long-lasting friendships. She is very much loved and will be terribly missed.

She is survived by Donald Berggren, her husband of 24 years; daughter Debra Soliz; grandchildren Jennifer, Kristen, Allan, Kimberly, Danielle and Steven; great-granddaughters Mallory, Kaitlin; and a great- grandson on the way; stepdaughters Vicki and Betsy; stepgrandson Steven and his children; and a multitude of nieces and nephews who continue to reside throughout Oregon.

Due to her wishes, no service will be held. There will be a private inurnment at Eagle Point National Cemetery in Oregon.
