James Lewis Johnson III passed away on the evening of June 30, 2012, after a courageous, year-long battle with cancer.
He was born on March 22, 1985, to Linda and James "Jim" Johnson Jr. in Newport Beach, Calif. At the age of 2, James and his family moved to Brookings, the place he would call home from then on.
James' true passion was fishing. He worked as a commercial fisherman for his career, but also enjoyed it as his hobby. Often, James would spend time fishing on the Chetco River and considered it to be his second home. He fished along the coast from San Francisco, Calif. to the state of Washington. Once, he even tried to hitchhike up to Alaska to fish. His biggest dream was to be able to fish off of those shores. He also enjoyed hunting, camping and hiking, sometimes even by himself with a bowl of Top Ramen and the day's catch.
He is survived by his children Aaliyah, Kiyla and James Johnson IV; parents Jim Johnson and Linda Johnson; sister Jamie Serna; girlfriend Amber Jordan; niece Cayleen Wiley; nephews Riley and Tyler Serna all of Brookings; grandmother Sarah Wadsworth of Sweet Home; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins whom James loved very much.
James is preceded in death by his grandparents, Diane Larsen and James Johnson Sr.
A Memorial will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 14, 2012, at Living Waters Foursquare Church, 1136 Fifield St. in Brookings. All are welcome to come and share the memory of this wonderful young man.
