Gene R. Camfield

The Curry Coastal Pilot

Gene R. Camfield, 84, of Gold Beach, passed away Jan. 2, 2012, at a care facility in Brookings.

Gene was born Oct. 31, 1927, in Santa Ana, Calif. to Raymond and Willa (Hooser) Camfield.

He left home at the age of 16 to enter a government apprentice school at Mare Island, where he would graduate with honors as a machinist. This was one of his proudest accomplishments.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Gene worked as a machinist for the University of California, Davis, and Aerojet General Corporation, in Sacramento, Calif., for most of his career. He also raised his family in the Sacramento area.

He retired in 1990 and moved to Gold Beach. Gene had a lifelong passion for music, was an avid golfer and enjoyed airplanes.

Survivors include his daughters Lori Eck and her husband Arthur of Thousand Oaks, Calif., Lisa Camfield of Hillsboro; brother Lee Camfield of Santa Rosa, Calif.

At Gene's request, a private service will be held at a later date.

Arrangements under the direction of Redwood Memorial Chapel.
