The Curry Coastal Pilot

Bette Louise Sherbourne was born Nov. 23, 1935, in Los Angeles. After an extended illness, she died Nov. 22, 2011, at the age of 75.

While working as a waitress at the Pep Creamery in Santa Cruz, Calif., in 1952, she fell in love with a soldier, Bob Sherbourne, shortly after his return from the Korean War. They married, and had two children, Deborah and Bryan. As a military family, they traveled the world and lived abroad.

The family settled in Brookings in 1989.

Bette was an exceptional artist, whose work has brought much pleasure and happiness to many. She was a past historian, public relations officer and president of Pelican Bay Arts Association in Brookings.

Bette leaves behind daughter Deborah Sherbourne and husband Marc of Ashland; son Bryan Sherbourne and wife Janice of Ada, Okla.; grandchildren Farrah, Jeremy, Michael, Jonathan, and Brittany. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Patricia Balzi of Santa Cruz.

She was preceded in death by her mother Mary Kathryn Wells; father Reynard Hugh Wells; brother Robert Wells; husband Robert Edgar Sherbourne. She also leaves behind many friends who will miss her dearly.

There will be no service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made "In Memory of Bette Louise Sherbourne," to Pelican Bay Arts Association, Manley Arts Center, P.O. Box 2568, St., Brookings, OR 97415.
