Doris McKee, 93, Brookings, died May 21, 2000, at Curry Good Samaritan Center.

She was born Sept. 26, 1906, in Perrydale to William H. McKee and Estella (Koser) McKee.

She was raised and educated in Perrydale and attended college at Oregon Normal School, now known as Western Oregon University.

Mrs. McKee taught at several small schools in the valley including several years at Perrydale Elementary teaching third and fourth grades. She boarded teachers in her home including Miss Evelyn (Pittman) Keyt, who became a life-long friend.

She quit teaching to take care of her father. In June 1961, she moved to Claremont, Calif. to live with her sister Gladys. They did custom decorating work making pillows, drapes and bedspreads.

In 1974, she relocated to Gold Beach to be near her family. She helped support the Gold Beach Senior Center by making hundreds of rugs. In 1999, she moved to Brookings.

She enjoyed many hobbies including working in her garden and tending to her chickens, baking bread, being active in the Perrydale Christian Church and playing dominoes with her family.

Survivors include sisters-in-law Wilma Sims-McKee, Easter McKee-Holland and caregivers Don and Ann Domes.

Also surviving are one niece and many nephews.

Preceding her in death were parents William and Estella McKee; brothers Laurence McKee, Joseph McKee, Levi McKee, Robert Nolan McKee; sister Gladys.

Graveside services are scheduled for May 26 at 1 p.m. at Bethel Pioneer Cemetery near Perrydale. Rev. Al Tschiegg will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests remembrances be made to The McKee Family Scholarship, Perrydale School, 7445 Perrydale Road, Amity, OR 97101.
