Verla Irene Johanson, 88, Brookings, died June 11, 2000, at her home.
She was born Sept. 9, 1911, in Tipton, Okla., to John Robert Wilson and Eva Gertrude (Hoople) Wilson.
She was raised and educated in Portland, where she graduated from high school. After graduating , she married Francis L. Stinson in Portland.
She and her husband had two sons and two daughters during the marriage. In 1952, she married Roger (Joe) Johanson. They relocated several times finally settling in Brookings in 1962.
Her husband died in 1973.
She enjoyed gardening, loved to cook, was noted for her potato salad and she was a devoted grandmother to her grandchildren, family members said.
She was a member of the Friendship Club, Altar Guild and St. Elizabeths Guild.
Survivors are daughters Patricia Lee Brookfield, Brookings; Arlene Keswick, Milwaukie; Dolores Nestlen, Portland; sons Gilbert Stinson, Coeur dAlene, Idaho; Don Stinson, Portland; brothers Norman and Arnold Wilson, both of Portland; Lloyd Wilson, Salem; sisters Selma Long, Portland; Vi Abbott, Eugene.
Also surviving are 23 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death was husband Roger (Joe) Johanson, parents John and Eva Wilson, brothers Willard and Cecil Wilson, grandson Daniel Keswick.
Memorial services are scheduled for June 17 at noon at St. Timothys Episcopal Church. Father Bill Smith will officiate.
Private interment will follow at Ward Memorial Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Scantlins Brookings Mortuary and Chapel.
