Lloyd Gates, 88, Brookings, died Aug. 6, 2000.

Mr. Gates was a logger much of his life and came to Brookings in 1952 following the logging trade.

Toward the end of his career, he sold logging trucks and bought a working share in Brookings Plywood Mill. He retired from the plywood mill more than 25 years ago.

After retirement, he split his time between Brookings, Southern California and Arizona visiting friends and relatives.

He was active in the Chetco Grange and the Sea Gulls Camper Club.

He was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Brookings.

His love of life and enjoyment of living and traveling will be missed by his family and friends.

Survivors are his wife Bonnie Gates, daughter Sylvia, San Mateo, Calif.; son Dave Gates, Olympia, Wash.; brother George Gates, Brookings.

Also surviving are grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
