Bertha F. Baker, 84, Smith River, died Aug. 27, 2000.

She was born May 14, 1916, in Shelton, Wash.

Mrs. Baker was a 65-year resident of Del Norte County. She was member of the Smith River Baptist Church. Prior to her retirement, she owned and operated the Redwood Gardens Florist and Nursery.

Survivors are daughters and son-in-laws Carol Leither and Dr. Rick Leither, Crescent City; Barbara and Gary Hallman, Fort Dick, Calif.; sister Evelyn Lee, Shelton, Wash.; grandchildren Melissa and Andrea Baker; David and wife Angel Mikkelsen; Mark Mikkelsen, Karen and Clayton Burris; SharRon, Layton, Leslie and Loren Hallman; great-grandchildren Amber, Bryan, Amanda, Angela and Amie Opbroek.

Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Preceding her in death was husband Lawrence Baker, son Gary Baker, brother Ben Boardman and grandson Tyler Hallman.

Floral tributes are welcome at the memorial service.

Visitation is scheduled for today (Aug. 30) from noon to 5 p.m. and Thursday, Aug. 31 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life at the Smith River Baptist Church on Aug. 31 at 6 p.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of Wiers Mortuary Chapel of Crescent City.
