Evelyn V. White, 82, Brookings, died Sept. 19, 2000.

She was born March 27, 1918, in Lynn, Mass., to Arthur and Margaret (Armstrong) Vinton.

She was raised and educated in Los Angeles. She graduated with a bachelors degree in political science from University of California, Los Angeles.

She married Clinton A. White in Oregon and they made their home in Berkeley, Calif., where she was active in politics and their family business. She retired in 1997.

Mrs. White enjoyed world travel, the film and theater industry, and was an an avid collector of mermaids. She was a member of the Libertarian party.

After her husbands death, she relocated to Brookings to be closer to her family.

Survivors are her son and daughter-in-law Roger and Wendi White, Brookings; grandchildren Roscoe, Lydia, Amber, Caitlyn and Rachel.

Preceding her in death were her husband Clinton A. White and her parents.

A memorial service is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 1, at 4 p.m. at the First Unitarian Church in Kensington, Calif. Inurnment was private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests remembrances be made to a favorite charity.
