James O. Johnson, 83, Brookings, died April 16, 2001, in Brookings.
He was born Jan. 12, 1918, in Milla, Ark., to James and Myrtle May Johnson.
Mr. Johnson joined the Navy in 1942 and served in World War II on various vessels. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
He married Dorothy Johnson March 31, 1946, in Yuma, Ariz.
He retired from the Navy in 1965 and worked in the Long Beach Naval Shipyard for 17 years retiring in 1982.
Survivors are his wife of 54 years who lives in Brookings; sons James L. Johnson of Seattle; Jeffery O. Johnson of Riverside, Calif.; daughters Jane L. Johnson of Smith River; Joy L. Pierceall of Riverside, Calif.; Jan L. Eisler of Apple Valley, Calif.
Also surviving are 11 grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents James and Myrtle Johnson, and son Bobbie Joe Johnson.
