Joseph J. Rupp, 82, Crescent City, died June 24, 2001, at Curry Good Samaritan Center in Brookings.
He was born Aug. 16, 1918, in Ness City, Kan., to Corneal and Anna Rupp. He lived in Ness City until 1932.
He lived in Dodge City, Kan. until 1942, when he joined the Navy during World War II. He served in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters and was honorably discharged in 1945.
He briefly retuned to Kansas, then moved to Pueblo, Colo. From 1952 to 1979, he owned and operated Rupp-Rusco Window Co. in Pueblo, then retired in 1979.
He moved to Crescent City in 1980. He was a member of Smith River Baptist Church since 1984 where he served as trustee, usher and Sunday School teacher. He was also a member of the Elk Lodge in Pueblo since 1952.
He was a member of Part Hill Baptist Church in Pueblo for 25 years and a member of First Baptist Church in Crescent City from 1980 to 1984.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing in Colorado, and fishing in California. He enjoyed gardening. His gardens were included in garden tours. He participated in and enjoyed the activities of the Brookings Hospitality Tours group.
Survivors are his wife, Harriet Rupp of Crescent City; son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Ardie Rupp of Los Alamos N.M.; step-daughter, Ellen Marsalis of Colorado City, Colo.; step-daughter and her husband, Nancy and Reuben Espinoza of Rye, Colo.; brother and sister-in-law Toney and Ruth Rupp of Ness City, Kan.; sister, Leona Trimble of Woodburn; sister-in-law Linda Rupp of Ness City, Kan.
Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Ed, Clarence, Richard and Bob Rupp; sisters Eleanor Birzer and Julia Stegman.
A memorial Service is planned for today (June 30) at 4 p.m. at Smith River Baptist Church. A reception will follow the service.
