James Jim Callahan, 84, Brookings, died July 4, 2001, in Redlands Calif.

He was born Oct. 12, 1917, in Buffalo, N.Y.

He married Beatrice Norman Franklin of Virginia in 1940.

Mr. and Mrs. Callahan lived in Buffalo, N.Y., in the early fifties. He joined the Navy Reserve in New York during the closing days of World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946.

The couple settled in Ontario, Calif., in the early 50s. Mr. Callahan worked for General Dynamics Pomona Division until he retired in 1980.

Mr. and Mrs. Callahan moved to Brookings in 1984 with their beloved dog Corky.

Survivors include nephew Charles Callahan of Redlands, Calif; nieces, AnnMary, Kathleen, and Patty Callahan of New York; nephews Tom and Michael Callahan of New York; brother, William Callahan of New York.

Preceding him in death were his wife of 53 years; parents Charles and Lucy Callahan; sister Mari Lou Callahan Meslivitch; brothers Frank Callahan and Ed Callahan.

The U.S. Coast Guard will spread his ashes at sea off Brookings-Harbor.
