James C. Barbour, 69, Brookings, died Sept. 12, 2001, at home of heart failure.
He was born Aug. 12, 1932, in Scotland to James and Helen Barbour.
He grew up and went to school in Northern Ireland. He married his wife, Una, on Jan. 1, 1958, in Northern Ireland, and moved to Brookings Oct. 1, 1991, from California.
Mr. Barbour worked at the American Rubber Co. and retired in 1991. He was an ardent fisherman, well known at the port and a familiar figure up and down the river.
He is survived by brothers, Donald, Samuel and Alan Barbour of Northern Ireland; sisters, Margaret Moore and Charlotte McVeigh of Northern Ireland, Joyce Rushton of Australia, and Helen Mayfield of Arkansas; sister-in-law, Evyone Barbour of Northern Ireland; sons, Scott and Lindsey Barbour, Brookings; and three grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by sister, Isobel Murpoch.
Services will be Monday, Sept. 17, at 11 a.m. at Litty Funeral Chapel, 517 Railroad St., officiated by Rev. Bob Friend.
