John W. Pruett

John W. Pruett, 84, Brookings, died Sept. 28, 2001, at Chetco Inn Residential Care Facility.

He was born in Miles City, Mont., Dec. 1, 1917, to Grover C. and Bessie A. Pruett.

Mr. Pruett graduated from University of Washington in 1938 with a degree in electrical engineering then worked at Bonneville Power Administration until 1942.

He obtained a commission in the U.S. Army Signal Corps and was assigned to the M.I.T. Radiation Laboratory as a liaison officer in the development and design of military radar systems.

In 1946 he was employed by the U.S. Naval Air Missile Test Center at Pount Mugu, Calif., designing radar tracking systems. In 1953 he joined the Sylvania Electric Systems Laboratory in Mountain View, Calif., as a senior engineering specialist accomplishing some outstanding work in sophisticated electronic systems, his family said. In 1982 he retired and in 1985 he moved to Harbor.

Mr. Pruett was a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers.

His hobbies included fishing, duck hunting, golf and playing classical music on his piano
