Samuel John Carpenter

Samuel John Carpenter, 65, Brookings, died Dec. 21, 2001, in Brookings.

He was born April 3, 1936, in Wilkes Barre, Pa., to Samuel J. Carpenter and Marion Kemp.

Mr. Carpenter attended University of Wyoming and served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1956 to 1962 achieving the rank of sergeant.

He was employed in the food industry by Campbell Soup in Sacramento, as a plant engineer at Contadina Foods in Riverbank, Calif., and as a superintendent for Hunt/Wesson Foods of Davis, Calif.

He retired from Hunt/Wesson and moved to Brookings in June 1998.

Mr. Carpenter was a member of the Plant Engineers Association, The Moose Lodge and Elks Lodge of Woodland, Calif; Northern California Golf Association; and the Brookings Elks Lodge.

He is survived by his wife, Marion Micky Carpenter, Brookings; sons, Samuel J. Carpenter Jr. of Redmond, Wash.; James D. Quattro of Stockton, Calif.; daughters, Lisa Carpenter of Sacramento, Calif.; Bonnie Rodriquez of Modesto, Calif.; and Nancy Best of Garberville, Calif.

Also surviving are sister, Jane Borr of Santa Rosa, Calif.; and brother, William Carpenter of New York.

He is also survived by eight grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and many friends including Boswell.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

The family requests that no flowers be sent at this time. Donations may be made to a local hospice facility.

A memorial service will be Saturday, Jan. 26 at noon at the Brookings Elks Lodge.
