Russell E. Diener, 84, Harbor died Jan. 9, 2002, at home in Harbor of a heart attack.

He was born Sept. 11, 1917, in Milwaukee, Wis., to Eleanor Rohde and John P. Diener.

He attended public schools in Milwaukee. He earned a bachelors degree from University of Wisconsin and a masters and doctorate from University of Michigan

He married Elizabeth Huntington April 26, 1962, in New Jersey.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1946 and achieved the rank of captain.

He was a college professor at Kent State University and several colleges retiring in 1978. He was involved 10 years in psychological educational testing and teaching children with severe learning disabilities.

Dr. and Mrs. Diener moved to Harbor in 1985 from Hawaii.

He enjoyed playing clarinet and saxophone in jazz bands and at the Eagles Ballroom in Milwaukee.

Surviving is his wife of Brookings.
