Frank LaRoy Rogers, 84, Smith River, died Jan. 13, 2002, at his home in Smith River.
He was born Aug. 15, 1917, in Norway, Kan., to James and Charlotte Rogers.
The family moved to Likely, Calif., in 1966 where Mr. Rogers worked as foreman on the Southern Pacific Railroad for eight years. Moving then to Dunsmuir, Calif., he was promoted to track supervisor.
He retired from the railroad in 1977 after 32 years of service and achieving the distinguished 32-year safety award.
After his retirement, he and his wife moved to Smith River to be close to the Pacific Ocean they enjoyed.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Evelyn, of Smith River; sons, Jim of Grants Pass; Ted of Brookings; Rex of Crescent City; daughters, Charlotte of Brookings; Carol and Laura, both of Reno, Nev.; and Norma of Milford, Calif.
Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
