Memorial services for Howard Hauschildt, 78, of Gold Beach, were March 5 at the Gold Beach Masonic Lodge, No. 199.

He died March 1, 2002, in Portland.

Charles Heuser, past master of the Gold Beach Masonic Lodge, officiated the memorial service. Interment was at Rogue River Cemetery in Gold Beach. A reception followed at the Gold Beach Volunteer Fire Hall.

He was born Aug. 24, 1923, in Marshfield. His parents were Ferdinand and Polly Hauschildt; and Lyle and Elsie Strong.

Howard attended Coos River Schools and graduated in 1941. He worked for Dell Brunell as a young man and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. Howard married Constance Connie Rathbun on April 27, 1946, in Eugene.

He operated Howards Shell Service in Coos Bay until moving to Gold Beach in 1958. There he operated Howards Shell Service until retiring in 1998.

He participated in the Gold Beach Masonic Lodge, No. 199; Scottish Rite; Shriners; Jesters; Gold Beach Lions; Rotary; and was a Gold Beach volunteer fireman for 22 years, 12 of which he was the chief. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed camping with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Connie Hauschildt of Gold Beach; daughter and son-in-law, Lyndell and Duane Rath of Gold Beach; grandchild, Elizabeth Beeson; and step-grandchildren, Sheri Beeson, Christen Rath and Chelsea Rath, all of Gold Beach; Melady Beeson of Coquille and Harry Beeson Jr., U.S. Army, Hawaii.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Roger.

The family suggests remembrances be made to the charity of the donors choice.
