Betty M. OHagan

Betty M. OHagan, 73, Brookings, died Saturday, March 16, 2002, at her home of natural causes.

She was born Feb. 4, 1929, in Santa Barbara, Calif., to John and Sara Perry.

She was raised in California and at the age of 16 married Patrick OHagan.

His military career took the family to many areas of the world including tours of duty in Japan, Panama and France.

After his final assignment at the Pentagon, they moved to Tacoma, Wash., for his retirement. It was then that she returned to school and received both her high school diploma and college education.

In 1970, she graduated as a licensed practical nurse and worked for the V.A. hospital in Tacoma, specializing in drug and alcohol counseling.

In 1983, she retired to care for her husband during a final illness.

After her husbands death, she worked briefly in real estate sales and inspections. It was during this time she met a second love in her live, Frank Sund. They made a home together and traveled extensively. In 1993, they moved to Brookings.

She loved living at the coast. She was a kind and considerate person who opened her home to many friends throughout the years. She enjoyed painting, sewing, gardening and in her earlier years, bowling. She was fun-loving and had a wonderful sense of humor.

Survivors include her companion, Frank Sund of Brookings; daughter and son-in-law, Cathlene and Bill Boleyn of Blythewood, S.C.; son and daughter-in-law, Patrick and Darla OHagan of Tacoma. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
