Charles Arthur Harless

Charles Arthur Harless, 69, Brookings, died Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

He was born May 20, 1932, in Hollywood, Calif., to Ethel and Arthur Harless.

He served in the U.S. Navy for 26 years. His duties included serving in the Korean War and three tours in Vietnam. He achieved the rank of commander before retiring. He was also a Navy Seal.

He married Eileen July 30, 1994 in Oakland, Calif. They moved to Brookings eight years ago from the San Francisco Bay Area.

Mr. Harless enjoyed golfing at Salmon Run golf course where he won a lifetime membership for naming the golf course. He loved salmon and steelhead fishing, and woodworking.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Brookings. In the San Francisco Bay Area, he was a member of the Masonic Lodge and served on the board of the Salvation Army. In Oakland, he was a member of the Officers Club and the Traffic Transportation Club. Veterinary medicine was his love.

Survivors include his wife, Eileen of Brookings; daughters, Christina Seuser of Corvallis; Rochelle Seuser of Ashland; sister, Dr. Audrey Tillman of Oakland, Calif.; brother, Robert Loeser of Palm Harbor, Fla.; nephews, John and Edward Tillman, both of Temecula, Calif.; John Loeser of Corvallis; niece, Allison Shepard of Palm Harbor, Fla.

Also surviving are five great-nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Ethel and Arthur Harless; brother, Mel Tillman.

A viewing will be at Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives in Medford, Monday, April 8, from 11 a.m. to noon.

A graveside service will be at Eagle Point National Cemetery at 1 p.m. Monday, April 8. Officiating will be Father Carmello Mifsud of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A memorial service given by close friends will be at a later date in the San Francisco Bay Area.
