Phyllis Dorine Rainey

Phyllis Dorine Rainey, long-time Siskiyou County and Harbor resident, died May 13, 2002, at the Madrone Hospice House in Yreka, Calif.

She was born Oct. 7, 1924, in St. Francis, Kan. to Fred and Luella Nighswonger Reichert.

She attended school in St. Francis and moved at an early age to the Imperial Valley, Calif.

In 1943 she married Fred A. Rainey and moved to Horse Creek, Calif.

Her interests included the VFW Auxiliary, Teen Club, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Klamath Union Parents Club, Little League and caring for elderly people.

Her hobbies included hunting, fishing, camping and travel.

She enjoyed spending time at her home in Harbor. For the last 30 years Mrs. Rainey and her husband became avid fishermen. She was well known for her expertise and uncanny luck in knowing where the big salmon were. She and her husband were known among Brookings and Harbor fishermen by their CB name andquot;Shudda Cudda.andquot;

Survivors include husband; sons and daughters in-law, Charles F. and Donna of Montague, Calif.; Gary and Karen of Horse Creek; brother, Charles Reichert of Waitsburg, Wash.; sisters, Roberta Trumbull and Mary Rand of Milton-Freewater; Rhea Townsend of College Place, Wash.

Also surviving are grandchildren, Danette Rainey of Medford; Darren Rainey and wife Lorie of Sherwood; Andrea Taylor and husband Greg of Pleasant Hill; Gary Jr. and Amanda Rainey of Horse Creek; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Mrs. Rainey was preceded in death by a sister, Mattie Sherlock; brothers Lorance and Dennis Reichert.

A gathering of family and friends was in Montague.

In lieu of flowers the family would like donations be made to the Madrone Hospice, 255 Collier Circle, Yreka, CA 96097.
