Jack C. Tellefsen

Jack C. Tellefsen, 82, of Brookings, died of natural causes April 19, 2002, at an area hospital.

Mr. Tellefsen was born March 31, 1921, in Berkeley, Calif., the only child of John and Johanna Zimmer Tellefsen.

He was raised in Oakland, and graduated from Oakland Technical High School. He then attended Stanford University for one year before being drafted into the U.S. Army in World War II. He served in Northern France and Central Europe, and was honorably discharged in 1945.

In the early 1960s, he met his future wife, Nikki, and they were married Nov. 8,1969. They made their home in Sacramento. During these years, Mr. Tellefsen was active in the California Free and Accepted Masons. He was a member of the Ben Ali Shrine in Sacramento.

Mr. Tellefsen worked 39 1/2 years as a telephone electronics engineer for Pacific Bell. He retired in 1979.

He moved to Brookings in 1986. Following retirement, the Tellefsens traveled extensively. He especially enjoyed their annual trek to the Atlantic.

He is survived by his wife of Brookings; daughters, Pamela Slattery of Placerville, Calif.; Jacqui McChesney of Arroyo Grande, Calif.; Wendy Benway of Folsom, Calif.; stepdaughter, Sandy Bisbee of El Dorado Hills, Calif.; stepson, Robert Kelly of Woodland, Calif. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents, and a 4-year-old son, John, in 1946.
