Ernest Charles Flackus

Ernest Charles Flackus, 87, died in his home Aug. 23, 2002, in Harbor.

He was born March 14, 1915, in Hildebrand to Charles and Lilly Flackus and was raised and educated in that area.

His family was a pioneer family in the Klamath Falls area and during the depression he worked on a ranch.

He was drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II and served from 1941 to 1945.

After the war he was a member of the Klamath County Sheriff's Department where he worked as a night jailer.

He married Dorothy O'Mara in Boise Idaho after the war. They moved to Klamath Falls area where he worked in the saw mills and became a supervisor. In 1965, they bought Gearhart Lodge, a restaurant, bar, and hotel in Bly, and enjoyed working together until it burned down. Later they invested in a supermarket in Monroe and ran that business until they retired in 1977.

They moved briefly to California and then retired in the Harbor area in 1978 where they enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. They took pride in raising their grandson, Mike Rae, during these retirement years.

Mr. Flackus was a Mason and member of the Crater Lake Lodge in Klamath Falls.

Survivors include his stepson, Ed Rae of Coos Bay, and grandson and wife, Mike and Shana Rae of San Diego, Calif. Also surviving are great-grandchildren Stephanie and Leanna Rae of San Diego.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, two brothers, three sisters and two half-sisters.

Inurnment will be at W.J. Ward Memorial Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Redwood Memorial Chapel.
