Lucille Belle Shaw

Lucille Belle Shaw, 89, of Brookings, died Sept. 5, 2002 at Sutter Coast Hospital in Crescent City.

She was born Jan. 18, 1913 in Libby, Mont., to Jess and Gertrude Gossett Jones.

She was raised in Libby Mont. and Yakima, Wash., and then the family moved to Longview, Wash. where she graduated from high school.

She met Leonard Floyd Shaw in Longview and they were married in Vancouver, Wash. on April 10, 1934. The couple made their home in Portland where she worked at Montgomery Ward in the personnel department.

Following a move to Oakland, Calif. she became primarily a homemaker until moving to Hayward, Calif. She then went to work as a medical receptionist and soon was running the office of a private physician, Dr. Steinberg; a position she held for many years. Following Mr. Shaw's retirement, the Shaws moved to Forrestville, Calif. and lived there for 18 years before moving to Brookings in 1985.

She was a member of the Episcopal Church in Hayward. She enjoyed reading, playing pinochle, gardening, needlework and loved cats. She enjoyed spending time with her family.

She is survived by her husband, Leonard; sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth C. and Mary Shaw of Portland; Randall P. and Louise Shaw of Brookings; brother and sister-in-law Durward and Marguerite Gossett of Eugene; sister Thelma Ladell of Marysville, Wash. Also surviving are three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Monday, Sept. 16, at 1 p.m. at Brookings Elks Lodge, 800 Elk Dr., Brookings.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Redwood Memorial Chapel.
