Roy Harris, 92, of Brookings died Sept. 6, 2002 at home of lung cancer.

He was born Feb. 16, 1910 in Arapaho, Okla. Territory to Ode and Bessie Harris.

He moved around in several of the Western states when he was young. He left home at an early age and went to work. He worked for several years in a cabinet shop in Klamath Falls and then was employed as a gyppo logger in Keno for 15 years.

During WW II, he worked for Hurley Marine at the shipyards in San Francisco.

In 1949, he began working as a janitor for what was then called Ashland Normal School. The school eventually came to be named Southern Oregon University. He retired in 1972 as the physical plant supervisor.

Mr. Harris married Elsie Colley in 1934 in Ashland and many years later divorced. He then married Yvonne Spears in Reno, Nev. in 1980.

After retiring he built a 45' fiberglass dory and commercial fished in Brookings-Harbor until the late 1980's.

He was an outdoorsman and liked dancing on Saturday nights. He built houses for family, boats, and was a handyman in all aspects. He was a self proclaimed andquot;mayorandquot; of Keno.

He is survived by his wife Yvonne of Brookings; daughter, Barbara Parrett-Eary of Brookings; sister Gladys Moreland of Chico, Calif., four grandchildren, three great grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother.

Arrangements are under the direction of Redwood Memorial Chapel.
