Archie Paul Hendricks, 95, died Sept. 18, 2002, in Camp Sherman of natural causes.

He was born Oct. 24, 1906, in Rugby, N.D. to Jasper Brown and Alice D. (Young) Hendricks.

He lived in Portland from 1925 to 1945, at which time he moved to Brookings.

He married his first wife Malisa, on Aug. 23, 1932 and she passed away in 1987. He then married Kay Syverson and she passed away also.

He returned to Portland from Brookings in 1959 and lived there until 1987. While living in Brookings, he was the owner of Hendricks Furniture Store and in Portland, he filled many positions for Montgomery Ward including furniture buyer. He moved to Des Moines, Iowa in 1987.

Mr. Hendricks enjoyed playing dominos and spending time with family. He enjoyed spending time at the river beside his summer home in Camp Sherman.

Survivors include daughter Nancy Rittgers, of Johnston, Iowa; son Gerald Hendricks, of Blanco, Texas. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter Pauline.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Chapel of the Pines Church in Camp Sherman on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 2 p.m. and at Valley Community United Presbyterian Church in Portland (of which he was a charter member), Sunday, Sept. 22, at 3 p.m.

His urn will be placed at Riverview Abbey in Portland.

Memorial donations may be made in his name to Campus Crusade for Christ and Young Life, 7103 Lynwood Court, Johnston, Iowa 50131.
