Interpretive programs create fun at Harris Beach

By Bill Schlichting / The Curry Coastal Pilot

Interpretive programs are keeping people busy who visit Harris Beach State Park during the summer months.

Programs have ranged from presentations about tidepools to the St. George Reef Lighthouse and musical entertainment.

Most programs and walks meet at program area by camp space C-22. Interpretive programs let people explore the park's natural and recreational opportunities firsthand. Summer interpretive programs, led by Ranger Angela Stewart, are offered by interpretive staff and run from Memorial Day weekend through September on Tuesdays through Saturdays.

Parking for all programs is available at the park office in the A loop.

Interpretive programs include:

andbull;Birding Along Our Trails - Come listen and look for our birds of the park to kick off the first day of summer at 7 p.m. today (June 21).

andbull; There will be no programs this week on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 24 and 25, because of staff training.

andbull;Rapp Brush will perform country classics from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 26. The musician performs songs by Charlie Pride, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard as well as originals on vocals and guitar.

andbull; There will be no program on Friday and Saturday, June 27 and 28 because of staff training.

More programs are planned for the remainder of the summer. Watch the Curry Coastal Pilot for details.

People are also welcome to meet the park's bird host available from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., depending on weather and fog, at the lower day use area. She will help people see the birds and wildlife of Goat Island.
