A new market is coming to town to provide a new means of selling goods for small vendors as well as raise funds for nonprofit groups.
The first market will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Blue Coast Inn and Suites, 1216 Chetco Ave., Brookings. It will continue every Friday in June, according to organizer William Webster.
Friday's market is planned to be small, with eight booths on the outside of the motel and as many as three inside, Webster said. Vendors planning to be there include the F/V Pisces selling tuna, Coffee Roasters and Divine Spark selling greeting and note cards, rock art, copper bracelets and rings and stained glass. He added that he is working to add a barbecue vendor.
Currently the market will raise funds for a new group, Shop Local First, being organized by Bonnie Wilson of Divine Spark, which is working on getting nonprofit status. The group is intended to help small vendor businesses.
Webster said the fledgling group isn't in need of much funding other than to get the word out.
Another group Webster said he desires to help is the Vietnam Veterans of America for its fireworks fund.
