Police nab suspected burglary suspect

By Jane Stebbins / The Curry Coastal Pilot

Curry County Sheriff's deputies were able to apprehend 25-year-old Joseph Armfield after an off-duty police officer recognized him as one who allegedly broke into various businesses and cars over the past several months.

According to Sheriff John Bishop, the police officer saw Armfield walking along Oceanview Drive near West Benham Road Saturday with Harbor resident Joshua Lee.

Armfield had gone into Lee's house, and while the officer waited for a sheriff's deputy to arrive, a vehicle driven by 42-year-old Danny Eiker pulled into the driveway and left with Lee.

Officers contacted Eiker and Lee, and obtained permission to enter Lee's house and apprehend Armfield. As officers approached the house, Armfield exited a trailer and was taken into custody without incident. He was also found to be in possession of methamphetamine.

Armfield was arrested on a felony warrant for possession of a controlled substance and a probation violation.

Eiker was also arrested after he consented to a search of his vehicle which revealed he was in possession of a controlled substance - a prescription medication that didn't belong to him. He was transported to the Curry County Jail and lodged on possession of a controlled substance and violation of his conditional release from the jail. His earlier charge was possession of methamphetamine.

Armfield has being actively sought by law enforcement for several crimes he has allegedly committed over the past several months, including a break-in and theft at the Hungry Clam, Mattie's Pancake House and Omelette, several car thefts and other burglaries.

Armfield is also a suspect in several other crimes the Brookings Police Department is investigating, and additional charges against Armfield are expected.
