PORT ORFORD andndash; Several slides caused by recent rains have closed the Elk River Road east of Port Orford, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
A road slide at Milepost Six (above the Elk River Fish Hatchery) has made the Elk River Road impassable. Repairs are planned after the next round of rain. See the latest forecasts at www.CurryPilot.com/weather. "Although
road slides are not uncommon along coastal routes this time of year,
there has been an increase in the number of slides along the Elk River
Road," says a Forest Service press release issued Wednesday. "Forest
visitors are advised to be cautious when traveling on forest roads, and
to be prepared in the event a road becomes impassable by packing extra
predicted forecasts for additional precipitation to occur in the next
several days, the Agness Construction Co. is scheduled to remove the
debris on the Elk River Road starting early next week. It is anticipated
the road may be passable by mid-week.
