The Curry Coastal Pilot

CRESCENT CITY - Rogers and Hammerstein's famous western musical "Oklahoma!" accompanied by the Del Norte Curry Orchestra opens at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 14, at Crescent Elk Auditorium, 994 G St.

The Lighthouse Repertory Theatre musical production with a cast of more than 30 is directed by Kirsten Randrup. First produced for the stage in 1943, the show includes classic songs such as "Oh, What A Beautiful Morning," "People Will Say We're In Love," "The Surrey With The Fringe On Top" as well as the title hit "Oklahoma!"

The story takes place in the Oklahoma territory of the early 1900s where there are two pairs of lovers who vie with an evil ranch hand and a traveling peddler for the hearts of the women they adore.

Curly McLain is a cowboy who has trouble admitting his feelings to Laurey Willliams, as she does to him, because of their mutual stubbornness. Judd Fry, the seedy hired hand at Laurey's farm, tries to come between them. Ado Annie Carnes is torn between Will Parker, a cowboy who has strong feelings for her, and Ali Hakim is a Persian peddler who is a ladies' man and desires the beautiful girl, but doesn't want to marry her.

Amidst all the songs, the dancing, the guns and the knives, the action, the leather and the lace, love comes shining through, according to a play publicist.

Additional shows will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 15, and 2 p.m. Sunday, March 16, as well as the following weekend.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for seniors and students. Tickets are available at Del Norte Office Supply in Crescent City and at the door.
