The 2014 Azalea princesses are one step closer to making their stage presence at the upcoming Azalea Scholarship Pageant scheduled Friday, May 9, at the Brookings Church of the Nazarene.

The step the princesses made was completing public speaking training offered by Chetco Chatterers Toastmaster Club. Their final workshop was to present speeches to the public at the Chetco Community Public Library Tuesday night.

Princesses Morgan Early, Michaela George, Kendra Graham, Mallory Darger and Mikayla Lea presented table-topic speeches, which are impromptu talks answering a question given by the night's master of ceremonies Gordon Clay. Each girl was given a different question. The talk had to include a word posted on a dry-erase board in the room.

Later, the girls presented their prepared speeches. Each was then presented a certificate for completing the workshop.

Clay, who organized the workshop for Toastmasters, also presented certificates to members Carol Crow and John Golding for their help and attending every meeting. Golding also presented Clay a certificate for leading the workshops.

At the end of the evening, a reception was held with refreshments furnished by the Curry Coastal Pilot.
