City crews take advantage of sunny days
Brookings street officials are taking advantage of good weather to start - and finish - various projects throughout town this week.
Construction was finished on a water main replacement project on Easy Street, Mayor Ron Hedenskog said Monday.
The project included the installation of a 12-inch water main along Easy Street from Highway 101 to Mardon Court. A section of main was also replaced on Mardon Court. The new main will replace a failing 6-inch main that has experienced multiple breaks over the last two years.
Trench repair and resurfacing the street was completed Friday.
"This is an older and undersized part of our water distribution system that has been on the replacement list for a number of years," Hedenskog said.
The city used a combination of System Development Charges (SDC), paid by new development, and System Replacement Fees (SRF), paid by current customers, to fund the project.
Work was conducted by McLennan Excavation of Brookings.
In non-city related work, a 40-unit family housing complex is nearing completion on Lucky Lane. The certificate of occupancy were issued on the first 20 units last week.
The Smith River Rancheria has also begun construction on a 19-unit multi-family project on Fifield Street in Brookings. Site work and basic plumbing is done and building construction is now scheduled to begin in the spring.
