SMITH RIVER - The flamenco-based, guitar-driven, world music band Incendio will perform at 7 p.m. Friday at the Lucky 7 Casino event center.
The concert, presented by Friends of Music and Stagelights Musical Arts Community, will feature the four Los-Angeles-based members playing a mix of classical, jazz, flamenco, rock and even Celtic music using three guitars, bass, drums and percussion.
Tickets are $20 and available at the door, in Brookings at the Curry Coastal Pilot and Wright's Custom Framing and Art Supplies; in Crescent City at Del Norte Office Supplies.
Band leader and guitarist Jean-Pierre Durand said Incendio draws as much from Spanish and classical guitar as it does the music of Led Zepplin, Steely Dan and Rush.
"There are way too many other influences to limit our sound to just one thing," he said. "The rock bands are important touchstones for the group. Their approach to composition and production is a huge influence on us. By virtue of that, we're going to sound different."
Durand will be joined on stage by his wife, Liza Carbe (guitar and bass), Jim Stubblefield (guitar) and Timothy Curle (drums/percussion).
The band is often grouped with nouveau flamenco guitarists such as Jesse Cook, Armik and Luis Villegas, but Incendio likes to stretch out into other musical styles as well, Durand said.
According to the band's website (www.incendiomusic.com,) classically-trained guitarists Durand and Stubblefield play nylon-stringed, acoustic guitars. Carbe - also classically trained - plays acoustic, electric and bass guitars.
