A village of actors are bringing to life a monstrous show when the Chetco Pelican Players present the musical "Young Frankenstein" for three weekends.

The production opens Friday, Sept. 27, at the Chetco Playhouse, 1240 Chetco Ave., Brookings.

After the success of "The Producers" in 2001, director, writer, actor and producer Mel Brooks adapted another of his movies into a musical. The film, which Brooks describes as his "best," is "Young Frankenstein," and the musical shares the now iconic title, according to a news release.

Brooks wrote the score to "Young Frankenstein," and shares a writing credit on the book with Thomas Meehan. The show opened on Broadway in 2007 and won the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding New Broadway Musical. It was hailed by critics from the New York Post to the Los Angeles Times as being "dazzling, funny, glitzy and 'classic Brooks.'"

The play includes memorable tunes such as "The Transylvania Mania," "He Vas My Boyfriend" and "Puttin' On The Ritz."

The All-Star cast includes Christopher Eckersley as Dr. Frederick Frankenstein, Mike Vest as the monster, Scotty Oka as Igor, Mariah Wise as Inga, Bre Ellis as Elizabeth Benning, Mary Anne Trailor as Frau Blucher, Tommy Jones as Inspector Kemp, Bill Schlichting as the hermit, Philip Dolan as Victor Von Frankenstein, and Josiah Wise as Ziggy the village idiot. Also featured are Matthew Stump, Lindsey Stump, Ellen Stadelman, Amaya Eckersley, Holly Carr, Daisy Carr and Kelly Scruggs in many ensemble character roles.

The production is directed by Karen de Lucca with the help of consultant Lon Goddard. Choral direction is by Jenny Young and Bre Ellis. Choreography by Jane-Ann Phillips. Set building and special effects are the creation of Mike Moran and Ralph Dickey.

The show is rated PG-13 for mature content.

During opening night of "Young Frankenstein" free horrific hors d'oeuvres and Frankenstein wine will be served by Chetco Pelican Players' Hospitality Hostess Claire Willard.

Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 2 p.m. Sundays through Oct. 13. Doors open 45 minutes before each show.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $6 for students. Tickets are available at Wright's Custom Framing and Art Supplies and Chetco Pharmacy and Gifts in Brookings, New Wave Video in Harbor and at the door. For reservations, call 541-469-1877.
