GOLD BEACH - It took judges nearly an hour to tally the scores of a record 24 contestants participating in the Curry County Fair Talent Showcase Saturday.

It was announced that there were 26 contestants, according to the list; however, the list was misnumbered and one duo was counted as two contestants.

"This is the most we have ever had," Siobhan Vila, mistress of ceremonies, told the audience, adding that, "This is the biggest audience that I have ever seen."

The adult winners were Jerry Sifford and Alex Adams of Gold Beach, first place; Jodi Harvey of Brookings, second place; and Cameron Kuykendall of Gold Beach, third place.

Alex Adams, 11, who sang "Glory to God in the Highest" with Jerry Sifford, is perhaps the youngest person ever to accept the first-place trophy in the adult category. The division a group enters is determined by the age of the oldest person.

When Vila announced the the performance of Sifford and Adams, she mentioned that the duo won first place when they performed the song during an Ellensburg Theater Company talent show last Christmas.

Harvey performed a rap dance routine to "Gangnam Style" by PSY. Kuykendall sang and played guitar.

There were only two contestants in the children's division - Sienna Rose Stephan, 9, of Port Orford, won first place for performing "The Lea Rig" and "John Ryan's Polka" on Celtic fiddle, and Denali Harvey, 9, of Brookings won second place for performing "Ratty's Weird Day," a rap original.

In the youth division, Shawntisha Bailey took home yet another trophy. This year she won first place for singing "Feeling Good." Last year Bailey came in third place. Bailey also won first place in the youth division in 2010 and a first place in the children's division in 2008.

Erika Doyle of Brookings, who also is a former trophy winner at the fair talent show, won second place for her performance of "Hell on Wheels." Doyle won second place in 2010 and first place in 2008 in the youth division.

Winning third place was Alyssa Gallian who sang a country song. It was announced during the show that Gallian was a Texaco Country Showdown finalist from a recent competition at Lucky 7 Casino in Smith River.

The three first place winners will perform in the Oregon State Fair talent competition Sept. 1 in Salem.
