CRESCENT CITY - A Pelican Bay State Prison inmate walked away from the minimum-security facility area that borders Lake Earl Drive early Monday afternoon, but was captured seven hours later.
Pelican Bay correctional officers, Del Norte Sheriff's Office, California Highway Patrol and Crescent City Police Department began searching for inmate Tore Digirolamo shortly after his escape around 12:30 p.m.
A helicopter also was searching from overhead with armed officers and police canines on foot.
Digirolamo, 44, from Los Angeles County, is described as a white male, standing at 5 feet 9 inches and weighing 200 pounds. He has brown hair and eyes.
He is serving time for corporal injury to a spouse with great bodily injury. He began serving his term in July 2011.
Digirolamo was found by the prison's crisis response team about 7:30 p.m. hiding in thick brush near Lake Earl, according to authorities.
