A strong cold front that arrived Friday night will continue to generate high surf and possible sneaker waves throughout the day today (Feb. 23), the National Weather Service reported.
The breakers were expected to reach a peak of 20 to 25 feet in height, with the heaviest waves breaking on northfacing beaches. The waves were expected to subside later tonight.
Sneaker waves, although infrequent, are those that break much further up the beach and can take beachgoers by surprise.
The cold front is expected to bring a 60 percent chance of showers during the first half of today, then becoming partly cloudy the rest of the day and into Sunday. A 10th of an inch of rain is forecast for today.
The next chance of measurable rain is predicted for Sunday night/Monday morning as another cold front arrives. A chance of rain is in the forecast all next week.
