Six private gardens, two businesses and a public school vegetable garden will be the sites in the sixth annual Coastal Garden and Art Tour hosted by the Curry County Master Gardener Association.

The self-guided tour will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11. Those who wish to visit the gardens may purchase a passport for $10 at ticket outlets in Brookings, Gold Beach and Crescent City. Passport holders may visit the gardens in any order they choose.

However, those who wish to be served lunch may want to stop by Kalmiopsis Elementary School where a tri-tip barbecue will take place starting at 11 a.m. and will continue until it's sold out. The cost for the barbecue is $7. A vegetarian option will be available.

Kalmiopsis is one of the venues. People may visit the Little Bear Patch garden. This vegetable garden has been an educational resource for the school as well as a source of produce for the Brookings-Harbor Community Helpers food bank since 2008.

Also at Kalmiopsis, the Master Gardeners will have a plant clinic to help people who have gardening questions andndash; people who bring plant samples in a sealed plastic bag, and the Pelican Bay Arts Association will have a display.

Gardens range from Dawson Tract, where plants are growing overlooking the ocean; near the airport where flowers are growing among forested acreage; and near the Winchuck Fire Hall where plants get a taste of a warmer climate.

Businesses on the tour are Otterbee's Farm and Fungi, where Russ Rose will give a presentation on "The Art and Science of Beekeeping," and Flora Pacifica, where Carrie Anderson will show how to make wreaths.

Nineteen artists from Pelican Bay Arts Association will be taking part, with demonstrations at each garden. They will be demonstrating their art. Master Gardeners from the Brookings-Harbor Garden Club and Innominata Garden Club in Gold Beach will be at all locations.

Passports may be purchased in Brookings at Manley Art Center and Gallery, Wright's Custom Framing and Art Supplies, Flora Pacifica, Chetco Pharmacy and Gifts, Winchuck Gardens, Emerald Coast Estates, Feather Your Nest, A Wild Bird and Backyard General Store and Sweet Pea Confections and Collectibles; in Gold Beach at Dan's Ace Hardware and Coffee Dock; and in Crescent City at Harvest Natural Foods.
