PISTOL RIVER andndash;andensp;The Pistol River Concert Association presents the band Houston Jones 8 p.m. today (June 2) at the Pistol River Friendship Hall, 24252 Carpenterville Road.
Houston Jones andndash;andensp;which has performed previously in Pistol River as well as at Azalea Park in Brookings for the American Music Festival andndash; is a California-based Americana quintet. Formed in 2001, the band performs an original repertoire that ranges from bluegrass and folk to blues and gospel.
The band consists of namesake members Glenn Houston and Travis Jones, and includes Peter Tucker, Henry Salvia and Chris Kee.
Houston is the winner of the Northern California Bluegrass Society's "Best Guitarist" award for 2009, a Bammie award winner, and co-founder of The Waybacks and Hearts on Fire.
Jones is a San Francisco Bay area singer and guitarist who has been seen in many venues with bands such as Large And In The Way, and who has worked closely over the years with leading Bay Area musicians.
Tucker is a percussionist who has worked with the The Monks, The Waybacks and everything in between.
Salvia is a keyboardist who has worked with artists such as Bo Diddley, Rickie Lee Jones, Johnny Colla (of Huey Lewis and the News), Big Jay McNeeley, Jessica Mitford, Tommy Ridgely, Al Kooper, Peter Coyote, Big Lou the Accordion Princess, Jan Fanucci, and (his favorite) Johnny Adams.
Kee, a classically-trained cellist with a degree in ethnomusicology, is a bassist who has recorded and performed with, among others, Peter Rowan, Norah Jones and Jim Lauderdale, as well as being an original member of the Waybacks.
