Voters reject Central Curry School levy

The Curry Coastal Pilot

GOLD BEACH andndash; A majority of voters in the Central Curry County School District on Tuesday defeated a five-year local option levy for school operations 1,119 to 891, or 56.10 percent to 43.90 percent.

That levy would have imposed an 85 cent per $1,000 assessed value for five years beginning in fiscal year 2012-2013.

School Superintendent Jeff Davis said that there would be a school board meeting tonight (May 16). He said that if the measure failed, the board would begin talking about what the deficit will look like and then start making cuts that are needed.

Davis said that without the additional revenue, the district would have to reduce staff, services or school days.

The Central Curry voters last September defeated a three-year local option levy by a similar vote.
