"The Basics: Memory Loss, Dementia ad Alzheimer's Disease," presented by the Alzheimer's Association, will be presented for anyone who would like to know more about the disease and related dementias.
The presentation will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 14, at Curry Medical Center, 500 Fifth St., Brookings.
Class participants will learn about the symptoms and effects; how Alzheimer's affects the brain; its causes and risk factors; the benefits of early detection and if its really Alzheimer's; how to address a diagnosis of Alzheimer's; stages and treatment of the disease; and hope for the future.
Space is limited and preregistration is required by calling 800-272-3900.
Caregiver Support Group members are invited to attend the Alzheimer's presentation in place of the regular monthly meeting, which is canceled this month.
The Caregiver Support Group will meet again April 9 and there will be a session with Diane Leveton, an insurance and financial consultant who works with caregiver support groups, caregivers and families to plan ahead rather than waiting until a crisis hits and the options are often less and the stress is much higher.
