Cape Ferrelo Fire Department Fish Fry

More than 700 people enjoyed a fish dinner and many took home prizes at the Cape Ferrelo Fish Fry and Raffle last Saturday.

After all expenses were paid, the fire department added $6,200 to its general fund, said Rich Miller, Cape Ferrelo fire chief.

As soon as the doors opened, people came in droves, filling every seat, Miller said. After that, the crowd was steady and almost every seat was filled, but everyone who attended found a place to sit.

Seating was available in both the conference room and in the truck bays. Heaters were placed in the bays to provide a warm atmosphere.

Miller said this year the event was better organized. One difference he touted was frying the cod on gas stoves, which heated the oil faster. This reduced the wait time, and having one item getting done before the other. Gas grills, as usual, were used to cook the tuna.

Diners feasted on marinated bacon-wrapped tuna, lingcod or black rock cod, Caesar salad and garlic bread while listening to raffle-winners' names called.

Grand prizes were supplied by Harbrook Jewelers, Discount Flooring Center, Fred Meyer Jewelry, Bella Rogue Bed and Breakfast and Bridge Restaurant, Best Western Beachfront Inn and Sebastian's Seafood Grill, Whaleshead Resort and Restaurant, and White Rock Resort and Nautical Inn.

Dozens of smaller prizes were also awarded ranging from gift certificates to free oil changes.

Winners have been contacted and arrangements made to pick up their prizes.
