Shoppers at Brookings-Harbor Shopping Center will receive tickets to

vote for their favorite charity Christmas tree through Saturday

afternoon, Dec.11.

The trees are currently on display in empty storefronts in the shopping center. Tickets are available at all stores.

Votes are due by 3 p.m. Saturday. The winner will be announced at 4 p.m.

The ChariTree Holiday Festival, sponsored by Shop Smart, will pay

$500 to the charity whose tree receives the most votes. Each non-profit

received $100 for entering the contest.

The trees will be auctioned Friday, with proceeds going to the charities that decorated them. Dozens of volunteers spent the weekend turning the ordinary trees into dazzlers, in hopes of winning.

The trees are located in the Stout Mountain Railway display area next to Shop Smart, and in three empty storefronts:

andbull;the former location of Ragz and Bagz, near Sears;

andbull;the empty storefront in the shopping alcove near Harbrook Jewelers.

Charities include:

andbull;Azalea Middle School Wind Ensemble and Sound Wave music festival trip to Vancouver, Canada.

andbull;Azalea Middle School eighth grade social studies trip to Washington, D.C.

andbull;Brookings-Harbor Community Theater.

andbull;CC's Clothes for Cancer.

andbull;Chetco Pelican Players.

andbull;Marine Corps League.

andbull;South Coast Humane Society (two trees).

andbull;Soroptimist International.

andbull;Over the Rainbow special needs riding program.

andbull;Star of the Sea Youth Group.

andbull;Stout Mountain Railway.

The ChariTree festival will also include a community tree lighting at 6 p.m. Friday, raffles, a wine grab, a gift wrapping station, carolers, hot cider, pictures with Santa Claus, games and prizes.

Stout Mountain Railway will operate an indoor holiday train display beginning Friday.
